The photo I have on my blogs tells only half of the story. It's one of my favorites and the completed pic on the left will show you why.
Yes, that's my husband, B. My hero. The love of my life.
And, yes, he's why I write romance.
Our 18-year-old daughter, C1, came home from school teary-eyed one day. As an exercise in their theater class, they were asked to share their personal stories. She heard many of her classmates talk about how either one or both of their parents were having an affair. They saw how their parents treated each other with disdain or, at best, indifference. They have come to the conclusion that all marriages inevitably reach that point and are, therefore, resigned to having the same experience themselves. Because of this, they no longer believe in marriage, except as a temporary convenience.
"I couldn't tell them about what we have," C1 said. "I didn't want to rub it in." She was referring to how she and her siblings know how crazy their parents still are for each other. And how we have always been each other's best friend.
It's something we're all grateful for every day. It gives our kids a feeling of security and hope for their own future.
It's also something I want to share. The faith that true and enduring love IS possible in this day and age. That romance isn't just fantasy. That living happily ever after can be more than just a fairy tale.
Of course, there are no guarantees. And it's not easy. It requires a full commitment. It means working at being the best you can be and bringing out the best in your partner each and every day. It means communicating completely in words and actions, sharing and learning and growing together. This embraces all your joys and sorrows, victories and challenges, even the mundane details of life that no one else cares about except you. It means knowing each other's faults and weaknesses and still loving each other inclusive of all those.
It requires a lot of love. A deep and borderless love. A love that lives and breathes and encompasses all aspects of your life and your being. A love that can bless your every day with warmth and comfort and inspiration.
I bear witness to the reality of that kind of love. And I write about it in each of my romance novels.
For all this, I thank B, my husband, my real life romance hero. He has made the experience possible.
And the story continues...
